Stephen Case (1870-1910) was an engineer and fireman with the Toledo, Peoria & Western railroad (TP&W) and was a member of the W.F. Hines Lodge, No. 48 Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen. His father also worked for TP&W as a train engineer for forty years until his death in 1899. His mother died at the age of 84 in Peoria. They had sixteen (that is not a typo) children together.
Stephen married Ada Swing (1873-1957) in 1892. Her father also worked for TP&W; her mother, an immigrant from Germany. They had two children together.
One year after they were married, in 1893, Stephen & Ada had Earl who died an infant. Irene was born a year later, in 1894. Her father Stephen died in 1910 when she would have been sixteen. She would go on to marry, move to Chicago, and earn a doctorate in psychology. She lived to be 84 but never had children of her own.
