Gottfried Christoph Jung

B: Apr 2, 1823 Worms, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

From various sources:

Gottfried emigrated to American in 1844 remaining in New York for six weeks before returning to Germany. Came back to America in 1845 and returned to Germany in 1847. Returned a third time to America in 1848, married Miss Christian Meinnolt, also of Germany, January of 1851 in Peoria, and settled in Spring Bay.

“Mr. Jung was very successful in his mercantile pursuits and has accumulated a nice property; built himself a nice residence, and owns land in different parts of the county. For the past fifteen or sixteen years he has been afflicted with rheumatism, which confined him most of the time to the house; is very popular and universally respected.”

His passport application of 1860 describes him as follows:

Stature – 5ft 6inches; Forehead – High; Eyes – Brown; Nose – Medium; Mouth – Small; Chin – Round; Hair – Mixed Gray; Complexion – Healthy; Face – Round

Christine Meinnolt Jung

B: Feb 21, 1831 Terrau, Bavaria, Germany

D: May 11, 1900, Spring Bay, Illinois, Age 69

Buried: Spring Bay Cemetery

She attended St. Paul’s German Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Peoria. I presume Gottfried also attended and is where they married.

There are no known children but a dog keeps watch inside the gate to their grave.
