Susan M. Yates Gregg (1843-1897)

In her Will she gives the following burial instructions (*Indiana Wills & Probate Records):

I desire and direct that my body shall after my death be interred on the same lot with, and near to my late husband, Richard Gregg, deceased in Springdale Cemetery, at Peoria, in the State of Illinois

I give and bequeath to my niece Mary B. Miller, and to her husband, Harry J Miller, Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars (250) with which to have erected at my grave a monument of white marble in the form of a rustic cross marked as follows, to wit: “Susan M., wife of Richard Gregg, died” – (here insert the date of my death)

News report, the Indianapolis News, Dec 21, 1897:

The will of the late Mr. Susan Gregg, a prominent woman who died here (Richmond) last week, was probated today. She left an estate valued at about $30,000. St. Paul’s Episcopal church, of this city, receives about $700; Stephen’s Hospital, $100, and a score of small bequests are made to various relatives. The balance is divided equally between (neices) Mrs. Harry Miller, of Terra Haute, and Miss Nora Kibbey of Phoenix, Ariz.
